Tattoo Removal Pre & Post Care Instructions

Pre-Care Instructions 

● NO SUN EXPOSURE TO THE AREA BEING TREATED
Don't expose your skin to the sun, tanning beds, or sunless tanning products for at least two weeks before your treatment. If you do go in the sun, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours. Sun exposure can make the treatment less effective and increase the risk of complications.

● If you are currently on Accutane, you must wait a minimum of 6 months before having a laser treatment.

● Avoid certain products and procedures stop using products like electrolysis, waxing, depilatory creams, and laser hair removal 4–7 days before your treatment. You should also avoid oral and topical medications like acne products and retinol 3–5 days before your treatment.
● Avoid certain medications don't take blood thinners before your treatment, as they can increase the risk of bruising and other complications. You should also consult your doctor before your treatment if you have implanted medical devices like pacemakers or cardioverters. Other medications that may interfere with treatment include daily anti-coagulation therapy, iron supplements, vitamin E, fish oil, and herbal supplements.
● Remove makeup, creams, and oils before your treatment, you should remove all makeup, creams, and oils from your skin.
● You can shave the areas to be treated before your treatment to remove surface hair. This only applies to tattoo removal. Eyebrows do not need to be shaved for permanent makeup removals. 

 

Post-Treatment Instructions

● After the treatment, you may apply an ice pack to the area if desired. 
● Common side effects may include the treated area feeling warm, swelling, redness, bruising, bleeding, blistering, and scabbing. The are should generally heal within 7-10 days. Discomfort should resolve within 24-48 hours.
● Avoid showering or bathing for 24 hours post-treatment.
● If the skin is scabbed and/or bleeding, apply bacitracin or Aquaphor daily to keep the area moist. Make sure to apply a thin layer so the area can breathe still. 

● Do not pick, scratch or apply friction to the area. This could result in scarring and prolonged healing. 

● If you are experiencing mild itchiness you may apply an over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream to the treated area once it is healed.
● If your arm or leg was treated, elevate the treated area for at least 12 hours post-treatment.
● You may resume light activities 48 hours post-treatment.
● Avoid strenuous exercise for one-week post-treatment.
● Avoid swimming, saunas, baths, or submerging the area in water until all scabbing and crusts have fully healed.

●Avoid sun direct exposure for a minimum of 2 weeks post treatment.  If you cannot avoid it, make sure the area is covered completely while in the sun. 

●After 2 weeks, apply sunscreen to the area consistently while in the sun. 

● Avoiding the sun completely during the removal process is best.
